Puristry Skin Care

This toner is the shit. That’s really the most honest way to put it.

I was gifted this toner by Free Bunni. Free Bunni is a clean skincare and beauty subscription box. The Puristry Flower Water Toner was included in the most recent box.

Puristry focuses on simple, highly concentrated primary ingredients to deliver the best results. Each product uses a single hero ingredient focus for clean and specific results.

Etre Noir Skin Care

I’ve been using the Flower Water Toner for a few weeks now, and it is amazing for my dry skin. It leaves my skin so soft and supple and clean and slightly plumped. The scent is very floral and pleasant, and it has never irritated my skin. In fact, a little more than a week ago I was suffering from a rash on my neck (still don’t know what caused it!), and this toner calmed the itching and the irritation. The Puristry Flower Water Toner includes hyaluronic acid, which hydrates and softens, and witch hazel for purifying the pores.

And how chic and elegant is the packaging?! This toner is awesome if you’re looking for a cruelty-free, vegan, gluten-free hydrating toner.

I don’t know what else to say except give this toner ($32) a try!

The Free Bunni subscription box includes five full size products for $70 per box

This item was gifted, but all thoughts are my own.

A Review of Verso Skincare

Around six weeks ago, I bought two skincare products from Verso. Verso is a Swedish skincare brand that launched in 2013. Their aim is to make essential, high quality products that target the skin’s daily needs. Verso’s uniqueness is in their addition of Retinol 8, a formulation that they say has proved to be eight times as effective and half as irritating as traditional retinol.

I only became aware of Verso this year, but when I read about the products (and peeped the cool, minimal packaging!), I really wanted to give it a try. I started with the Night Cream with Retinol 8 and the Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8.

The Verso Night Cream with Retinol 8 is very rich and nourishing. Initially, it has a gritty texture that gives way to a smooth, thick cream that took a couple of minutes to absorb into my skin. I love the texture, but I also have dry skin so take that into consideration when deciding whether you’d like it or not.

The night cream claims to be calming and repairing, causing skin to react less to external stressors. It also contains the Verso proprietary pièce de résistance, Retinol 8. I can’t really speak to the calming effects–my skin hasn’t been irritated in a while. But I can tell you that my skin is plumper and smoother when I use this cream at night. The literature on the site says the more noticeable result come about 8-12 weeks into use and I’m only in about six weeks. But based on the results I do have, I will definitely keep using this cream at night. The Night Cream with Retinol 8 is $115.

Verso Skincare review Etre noir

Etre Noir Skincare

The Verso Super Eye Serum tingled quite a bit upon first application, which kind of made me nervous. But it settled quite quickly and I didn’t experience any irritation after that. It has a thin, creamy consistency that spreads very easily, so you only need the tiniest bit. Less than a pea-sized amount. Since using this eye serum the skin around my eyes feels much more nourished throughout the day and slightly…bouncier? I’m excited to keep using it to see deeper results! The Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8 costs $85.

These items are pricey, but I think they make incorporating the ever-important retinol into my skincare routine so easy. And they have been effective. I will be looking to add more Verso products to my regimen.

Biologique Recherche Crème Masque Vernix

A couple of months ago I purchased Biologique Recherche’s Crème Masque Vernix from Rescue Spa. If you’ve read some of my other posts, you know what a fan I am of Biologique Recherche. It’s such an effective brand and the products I’ve tried always do what they say they will.

Here are the claims that Biologique Recherche makes of Crème Masque Vernix:

  • Powerful healing properties thanks to being rich in lipids, proteins, and antioxidant peptides
  • Balances the PH of the skin while inhibiting bacterial growth
  • reconditions and strengthens stressed or deficient skin
  • hydrates
  • repairs the DNA of skin cells damaged by UV rays
  • minimizes the signs of aging

Here are some of the reasons it has reached holy grail status in my routine:

  • When pores show up on my cheeks some mornings, I use this mask for ten minutes and they disappear again. It has never failed.
  • You can use it as a mask or a cream. Sometimes I use it as my moisturizer on days when my skin is really struggling (i.e. dry, rough, dull).
  • It hydrates without being greasy.
  • Recently I tried a 14-day peel that was much too strong for my skin type. I only got seven days into it when it was clear that I had to stop. My skin was peeling around my mouth, there was unflattering texture on my cheeks and center of my forehead, and my skin was a lot drier. I used Masque Vernix two days in a row and my skin was ninety-five percent back to normal.

The negatives of this product:

  • It costs $190. Ouch.
  • It smells like rotten, putrid bananas.

In my opinion, the pros far outweigh the cons. This is definitely a product I will continue to repurchase!

African Botanics & Marula

Recently, I’ve been introduced to African Botanics, a South African luxury skincare brand that utilizes active, nourishing ingredients, sustainable sources, and molecular science to create the beautiful and potent products that also feel and look like a treat to use. It probably shouldn’t be, but packaging and aesthetics are a big deal to me when I buy beauty and skincare products! I want it to look nice while sitting in my shower!

In June I bought the Pure Marula Oil ($100) and the Marula Regenerating Body Hydro-Serum ($95) as a first entry into the brand, and honestly, I’m impressed so far. For those who don’t know, marula comes from the marula fruit tree, which is native to southern Africa. It’s light in texture but rich in moisture, antioxidants, and fatty acids. I’ve been using the Pure Marula Oil daily after a hyaluronic moisturizer and it gives a slight sheen to my (dry) skin but absorbs lightning fast and never feels greasy. My skin feels so soft and supple after I apply it! It also layers beautifully under my matte foundation. I haven’t tried it with more dewy foundation formulas, though.

The Marula Regenerating Body Hydro-Serum is a clear gel formula that you apply to damp skin. It’s deeply hydrating and helps with firming and tightening the skin. I usually use it at night, as it has quite a noticeable minty scent and I don’t want it to interfere with my daily fragrance. It leaves kind of a tacky feeling on skin but once you layer your moisturizer over the top, that disappears. My skin feels tingly and somehow hot and cold after I apply it. It’s a weird but pleasant sensation and it dissipates after about fifteen minutes. After using it for the last couple of months, my skin is much more supple, soft, and healthy-looking.

After using these products for the last couple of months I’m looking forward to trying more from African Botanics! Have you tried anything from this brand? If so, what’s your favorite product?

Skin Care I’m Bringing to the Icehotel

I’m very diligent about keeping my skin moisturized. It can be difficult because on the spectrum of oily to dry, my skin is much closer to dry. Next month I’m traveling to Sweden to visit the Icehotel! I’m expecting some extreme temperatures, so I’m being proactive about keeping my skin hydrated in such cold weather. I also like to pack light when I travel, so I’ll only be bringing the most efficient products. Here are a few of them:

Glossier Super Bounce

  1. La Mer Moisturizing Cream – super thick and nourishing. Doesn’t absorb immediately, which I love because it acts as a sort of barrier between my skin and the elements.
  2. Glossier Super Bounce – hyaluronic acid holds moisture in the skin; loads and loads of moisture
  3. Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist – a quick way to re-hydrate your skin throughout the day
  4. Clarins Instant Light Comfort Oil – a very comfortable and moisturizing lip oil; not sticky at all
  5. Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask – I put this mask on when I’m on any flight over three hours. When I take it off at my destination, my skin is always plump and juicy!

Do you have any skin care favorites that you can’t travel without? Let me know in the comments!

Biologique Recherche Lotion P50V

I first heard of Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 on Into the Gloss. I read about it. I wasn’t convinced. I researched other reviews on other sites. Still wasn’t buying the level of hype surrounding this product. Here’s something you should understand about me: if a brand is French, I’m gonna try it. So I caved and ordered the travel size of the Lotion P50V 1970.

I’ll be honest–I’ve never had any major issues with my skin, the most problematic being how dry it was. I also had some slight texture on my cheeks. The first week of using Lotion P50V, the dryness disappeared but my skin looked more textured. I kept using it because it was a huge relief to have moisturized skin all day. Also, I know that some skin care products make your skin worse before it gets better. This was my experience with P50V. About two weeks later, I looked in the mirror and was pleasantly surprised at how plump and healthy my skin looked. The little texture I did have on my cheeks had disappeared, and my skin was smooth and glowing. I kept using it. My skin continued to look beautiful.

I sang it from the rooftops. I told all my friends and my mom to buy this stuff! I harassed them until they tried it. They picked the Lotion P50 that was right for their skin type, and they were converts, too. Seriously, this stuff has changed my skin. I haven’t searched for a heavy moisturizer in almost year, because it’s no longer necessary. The moisturizers I used to use are too much now.

As long as my skin keeps responding to Biologique Recherche’s Lotion P50V, I’m going to keep obsessively stocking my bathroom with it. I buy mine from Rescue Spa. They have a travel size, which is what I ordered first because I didn’t know if I’d like it and didn’t want to waste money.

Let me know if you’ve tried Lotion P50 and your experience with it!
